Do you have an inspiring word for the year?

The other day, my friend brought up one of my favourite New Year’s traditions: choosing an inspiring word.

It’s something I’ve been doing for years.

Choosing one word to guide me through the year.

inspiring tiles that say choose your wordsAnd keep me on track.

So I live my life based on my highest values.

You see, I don’t do resolutions anymore.

‘Cuz when I have in the past, I realized how futile they were.

And how self-punishing.

The seeds you sow will grow

Have you ever heard the saying:

The seeds you sow, grow?

Or Tony Robbins’ version “energy flows where your focus goes?”

While some people may think all this energy talk is a bit woo-woo, I believe in it whole-heartedly.

It’s why I practice gratitude.

In my experience the more I focus on the things that light me up — really acknowledge them and feel grateful for them — the more they expand and grow.

Into something more beautiful than I could imagine.

What a funny little word.

So small.

Yet so powerful.

It calls for action. For movement forward.

And sometimes it calls for courage.

Moving through my fear

For over a year now I’ve had a burning desire to post videos on social media. I’ve always enjoyed being in front of an audience, so it’s no big surprise.

But what is surprising (at least to me) is that I wasn’t making it happen.

No matter how much I wanted to, I just couldn’t take any action.

I felt frustrated and stuck.

I was paralyzed with fear. Of putting myself out there.

Every time I got close to posting something I’d think: “don’t be ridiculous, who the heck is going to watch you?”
