Start before you’re ready: let go of perfect & just begin

hopscotch with word "start", start before you're ready blog | kerry hanna coaching for women

Awhile back I created a YouTube video called Start Before You’re Ready.

It was light and encouraging. And meant to inspire you to overcome your fear of imperfection, failure, or procrastination.

To do the very thing you love. No matter what.

And to do it now.

Before you’re ready.

Since then I’ve realized that those words — “start before you’re ready” — couldn’t be more true.

Or more important.

The world needs us to step up.

To share our gifts.

RIGHT NOW.

Without delay.

To overcome our fear and self-doubts.

The perfectionism, procrastination, overthinking, over-analyzing, comparison to others.

All the reasons we tell ourselves we’re not ready.

And instead, do the thing we feel called to do.

However small or uncertain.

To do the very thing that could lead you to live a more purpose-driven life.

One of authenticity, meaning and joy.

Let me give you a few examples…

A friend of mine who’s been a therapist for 25+ years, has been wanting to make a shift in her career.

She was thinking of leaving her full-time position to start a part-time private practice.

And maybe even try doing online therapy.

But being tech-averse, she planned to ease into it slowly.

Then life had other plans.

My friend had to start before she was ready.

Her office suddenly transitioned her to working from home.

With barely a moment to hesitate — or let fear sabotage her — she found herself conducting virtual sessions.

And you know what?

She’s doing great!

Her clients are being served in ways that work for both of them.

She’s sharing her gifts, making a difference, and proving to herself she’s more tech-savy than she thought.

Another friend of mine, a coach, supports parents with young children.

She, too, was suddenly working from home.

Her employer asked her to record singalong videos to share in a private Facebook group.

She’d never filmed herself before.

She was nervous.

But she figured it out — and fast.

She was forced to push through her fear of doing things imperfectly.

And start before she felt ready.

Now her uplifting videos are being watched by hundreds of families.

She’s showing up. Sharing her voice. Making a difference.

These stories inspire me. They remind me that life nudges us forward, often before we feel prepared.

As for me?

What have I been nudged to step into more fully?

The answer has become quite clear.

Coaching. More coaching.

So I started my YouTube channel earlier this year…and definitely before I felt ready.

Watch my very first video: Moving Through My Fear you’ll see how terrified I was to put myself out there.

But I did it. I started before I was ready.

And now?

I’m being called to go deeper.

To fully embrace my role as a life coach.

To stop second-guessing myself.

And to own the truth I’ve always known:

Coaching is what I came here to do.

And I’m not going to wait until I feel “ready.”

I AM a life coach.

And it’s time I showed up like one.

So I’m doing just that.

Trusting the inner nudge.

Stepping forward.

Sharing what I know and who I am — because it’s time.

What about you?

What gift is life nudging you to share?

It doesn’t have to be big or fancy or in the public eye.

It just needs to be true.

Something that feels good when you do it.

Your gift might be singing, listening, gardening.

Dancing, parenting, creating.

Dog-walking, writing, painting,

Encouraging others. Or simply being present.

Whatever it is — don’t wait.

Don’t let fear or perfectionism or self-doubt stop you.

You’re more ready than you think.

And the world’s more ready for you than you realise.

So take that first step.

Start before you’re ready.
