When I was in my teens and 20’s, I signed up for all sorts of dance classes — ballet, jazz, zumba. You name it, I took it.
But honestly?
As much as I loved to dance, I sucked at all of them.

( But not quite as bad as Elaine from Seinfeld though! 😂)
I could never get the steps right.
My arms and legs felt stiff and awkward.
And my body seemed to work against the music instead of with it.
It was soooo frustrating!
While the other girls made it look effortless, I felt like I was working twice as hard and getting no where.
I was convinced I just wasn’t a “good dancer.”
But here’s the thing I finally figured out…
(while I was out dancing with friends at the clubs, where the rules didn’t matter)…
When I stopped trying to follow someone else’s steps and just moved my own way, that’s when the magic happened.
I connected with my body and the beat.
And my overthinking melted away.
Suddenly I actually was a good dancer.💃
Not because I was perfect — but because I finally felt free to do my own thing.
That’s exactly what happens when we get stuck in our heads.
And we overthink our every move, word, and choice.
We get so caught up in following the “rules” and doing things the “right” way…
That we end up losing our own rhythm.
And our connection to what actually feels authentic and true for us.
Sound familiar?
If so, maybe it’s time to let go of the pressure to get it “right.”
To stop overthinking and start listening to yourself again…
To your body, your energy, and your intuition.
To what feels good and what doesn’t…
So you can find your own rhythm again.
Because when you do, that’s when everything begins to flow.
And you’ll feel most connected. Most alive.
And dare I say…most like the real YOU.
Here are two questions you can ask yourself:
Where in my life am I still trying too hard to follow someone else’s steps?
What would it feel like to let go — and just move my own way?
Let the questions sit for a bit. And see what comes up for you.
Because life isn’t about getting all the steps right.
It’s about finding your own rhythm — and dancing freely to it.
Even if, some days, you still look a little like Elaine from Seinfeld. 😉

Stop overthinking and find our own rhythm. Love this advice. We really do close out a world of good for ourselves when we overthink. Thanks for the reminder.
Thank you so much! I’m really glad that message resonated with you. It’s amazing how much more ease we find when we stop overthinking (and doubting ourselves) and just trust our own rhythm.
