The power of tiny changes (even the spoon-sized ones)

Leo Tolstoy once said…“True life is lived when tiny changes occur.”

TINY being the operative word here.

Recently, I made one of my own tiny changes.

bowl of cereal being eaten with a spoon, tiny changes blog, kerry hanna coachingOne soooooo tiny (spoon-sized in fact) I could’ve passed it off as insignificant.

Yet I didn’t. Here’s the scoop (pun intended)

For years (decades!) I’ve eaten my bowl of crunchy breakfast granola using a small, delicate teaspoon.

But a few months ago, I suddenly switched it up.

And started using a bigger (much less delicate) tablespoon.

(Like the kind my ravenous 6′ 1″ son uses!)

I have no idea what prompted this sudden change.

But here’s the deal…

I can’t go back.

Believe me, I’ve tried. But the small spoon just doesn’t feel right anymore.

I know, I know, it’s a bizarre thing to write about, but stay with me here…

Cuz I have a point.

I promise.

This spoon switcheroo got me thinking about change in general.

And how easy it is to resist making changes in our lives.

We may tell ourselves:

“Oh I can’t do it this way, cuz I’ve always done it that way.”

“Who do I think I am to make this change?”

“OMG, what if I try something different and I fall flat on my face?”

Ok, so maybe switching spoons doesn’t warrant this kind of inner dialogue, but that’s not my point.

My point is this…

While change (big or small) can be scary, it’s necessary sometimes.

Especially if you want to live a more joyful (meaningful, purposeful, happier?) life.

Which is what those spoons got me thinking about…

How tiny changes can add up. And how I needed to make other small shifts in my life.

Rather than staying stuck, and doing what I’ve always done…

I needed to get out of my comfort zone and explore new paths.

And do what might feel better for me.

NOW.

At this stage of my life.

Maybe you’ve been craving that, too.

If so, it might be time to let some things go.

To try something new.

Go down a different path. One that feels better for you.

One that gives you more freedom and ease.

Because it doesn’t matter if you’ve done something the same way for months, years, or even decades…

You don’t have to keep doing it that way FOREVER!

If it doesn’t feel good anymore, you’re allowed to switch it up.

Which is what I talk about here in my video…

Cuz you never know how those tiny changes can add up.

And where they’ll lead you.

You might be pleasantly surprised at where you end up.

And how good you’ll feel!
