What your body is telling you and how to finally listen

The last few weeks had me running at full tilt — packing in social visits, work deadlines, and a to-do list that never seemed to end.

Before I knew it I was feeling emotionally drained.

The old me (the Energizer Bunny version) would’ve just kept going, going, going.

Until I crashed and burned. 💥

Then I’d wonder: what’s wrong with me?

But the wiser, more self-compassionate version of me noticed what was really happening…

My exhaustion, sensitivity to noise, and growing resentment were all clear signs. 🪧

So instead of ignoring them (like I may have in the past), I honoured them.

I said no to some invites.

Stepped back from social media.

And gave myself the gift of a quiet weekend.

I wrote a little.

Finished the last few chapters of my book: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo (by Taylor Jenkins Reid).

And watched a couple of feel good movies.

Including Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boyfor the second time.

(Sooooo bittersweet. Have you seen it?)

At first all of this me-time felt a bit indulgent.

The old voice of “you’re not doing enough” kept trying to resurface.

But I ignored it.

Because deep down I knew this quiet time was exactly what I’d been craving…

A way to recharge my empty battery. 🪫

My friend Wendy MacPherson, a somatic healer in Vancouver, recently wrote a beautiful blog about this.

She reminds us that our bodies are always sending us signs.

Like tight shoulders, a racing heart, sudden tears.

But in our go-go-go culture it’s easy to miss the signs — or dismiss what your body is telling you.

We’d actually have to slow down first, in order to figure out what we need.

And slowing down can feel uncomfortable when we’re so used to pushing through.

Wendy’s blog hit home for me.

Especially as I felt that all-too-familiar pressure to speed up. And get more done.

Her words were a gentle a reminder that we don’t need to have a perfect plan, take huge leaps, or stay constantly busy.

Instead, we can pause.

And take one small, intentional step towards what our body, heart and soul are asking for.

So if you’ve found yourself tired, resentful, or resisting the push to speed up and take on more…

Those feelings are important signals worth listening to.

They’re another way of noticing what your body is telling you.

Here are a few questions to sit with this week:

What’s one small thing my body (or heart) is asking for right now?
How would it feel to give myself permission to follow that inner nudge?
What tiny action could bring me a spark of joy this week?

Because you don’t have to prove yourself by doing more and pushing harder.

You can trust your body’s wisdom — it always knows what you need.

The real shift happens when you stop overriding what your body is telling you.

And start honouring it instead.

If you’d like some support tuning into those signals, I’ve got a two FREE resources that can help:
