3 simple steps for moving past your negative self-beliefs

Every year on Groundhog Day, we find out if the groundhog sees his shadow.

And whether we’ll have 6 more weeks of winter. Or not.

I’m gunning for “or not!”

#pleasenomorewinter 🥶

And it’s also when I’m furiously searching my TV to re-watch one of my favourite movies: Groundhog Day with Bill Murray.

Have you seen it yet?

(I can’t imagine not. It’s been around for 30 years! But hey, to each their own).

In it, Murray plays an arrogant big-city weatherman (Phil Connors) who gets stuck in a small town re-living Groundhog Day.

And he gets super snarky about it!

(as only Bill Murray can!)

Which got me thinking…

How easy it is for us to get stuck in our own version of Groundhog Day.

Where we keep repeating (to ourselves and anyone who’ll listen) the same complaints, fears, self-doubts, and negative self-beliefs we have.

Over. And over again.

And then wonder why we never move forward, towards the life we say we want.

As a Life Coach I hear these Groundhog Day beliefs from women a lot.

Beliefs that have kept them stuck in their fears and self-doubts.

And unable to move forward towards their dreams.

Here are the most common ones I’ve heard (and experienced myself over the years):

🌀 “I’m too much / too old / too ‘xyz'”. You play small and avoid shining your light tooooo brightly, in case someone else feels uncomfortable or says “who do you think you are?”

🌀I’m imperfect.” You avoid putting yourself out there because you might do it wrong or imperfectly (and get criticized).

🌀 “I’m not good enough.” You compare yourself relentlessly with others and always come up lacking (so why even bother to try? You just can’t win.)

Perhaps you can relate?

Or maybe you have a different belief. One that’s causing you to live your own crazy kind of Groundhog Day?

A negative-self belief that holds you back from expressing your most authentic self? And from living your best life?

If so, perhaps you’re ready to let go of that negative belief.

And go after what you really want in life.

Once and for all.

Here are 3 steps that can help:

💥 Get clear. You can’t shift something until you’re clear on what needs to shift. Try journaling, EFT tapping, talking to a friend or therapist, or hire a coach like me to help you get clear on what’s holding you back (so you can release it and start moving forward).

💥 Take action. Once you know what’s been keeping you stuck, it’s time to take action to get unstuck. Decide on one micro-movement that you both CAN and WANT TO do today (this week/this month) and then go do it. Key word here: “micro.” Rome wasn’t built in a day.

💥 Build momentum. Keep going! Continue taking baby steps each day/week/month that’ll help build momentum and propel you forward. Towards your ideal life.

And before you know it, you’ll start feeling just like Phil Connors did in Groundhog Day…

No more time loops, no more regrets.
