How to live a purposeful life (without having it all figured out)

From the outside everything looked “fine.”

But behind the scenes?

I was tired. Disconnected. Sad.

And wondering:

Is this all there is?

Flashback to 2017.

I was in a job that absolutely drained me.

I knew it wasn’t the life I wanted — but I didn’t know what else to do.

So most days, I’d sneak off to the library on my lunch break.

Just to breathe.

Be somewhere quiet.

And write blog posts, just for me — no agenda, no plan.

Just my way to start telling the truth again.

That small, quiet act was the first time I’d really listened to myself in a long time.

It reconnected me to something I’d forgotten…

My heart ❤️ as a coach.

I’d been certified for years by then. I just hadn’t let myself be one.

But writing those blogs led to clarity.

Clarity led to courage.

Which slowly led me to leave the job, start my own business

And finally start doing the work that lights me up.

But what it didn’t start with…

Was a five-year plan.

Or knowing what my life purpose was.🙅‍♀️

(Like I probably thought it should’ve back then!)

Instead it started with a one simple question:

“What feels right for me today?”

Which was waaaay more powerful than any grand master plan.

Because the truth is…

There’s A LOT of pressure out there that you should know your “one big purpose.”

That you should know exactly where you’re going in life. 🗺️

But what if you’re not supposed to have it all figured out yet?

What if your next step is simply…

Listening to what’s pulling at your heart?

This week I’m reminding myself (and you, if you need it) that clarity doesn’t come from forcing the answers.

(Lord knows I’ve tried and it doesn’t work!) 🤦‍♀️

It comes from slowing down enough to hear those answers.

It’s about getting honest with yourself — about what feels alive, meaningful, and true for you.

And when you’re tapped into *that*…

Things unfold in a way that feels more grounded and real.

The confusion lessens.

The pressure lifts.

And your next step becomes much clearer.

That’s how you begin to live a purposeful life…

Not by having it all mapped out.

But by coming home to yourself, one choice at a time.

Not because you pushed.

But because you paused

Long enough to hear yourself.

So if your future feels unclear right now, there’s no need to panic.

Rather than asking:

“What should I do with my life?”

Pause. Breathe. 🧘‍♀️

And ask yourself:

What feels true for me today?

Then listen for the answer inside.

And if you’re looking for a little direction (minus all the pressure), I’ve created something to help:
