When was the last time you felt lit up?

And I don’t mean busy, productive, or ticking boxes off on your to‑do list…
I mean deeply, honestly lit up — in that joyful, “I‑love-my-life” kinda way.
For me it happened earlier this year in Puerto Escondido, Mexico…
On the rooftop of my small hotel.
Chatting with people from all over the world.
Nothing big. Nothing fancy.
Just presence. Meaningful connections.
And a sense of aliveness I hadn’t felt in a while.
But for a lot of the women I coach, their answer to that question is heartbreakingly simple:
“I can’t remember.” 🥺
Here’s why we forget to do what brings us joy…
We get so used to white‑knuckling our way through life:
✅ Doing what’s expected
🫂 Taking care of everyone else
🤹♀️ Keeping all the balls up in the air

Joy starts to feel like a luxury…
Or worse, something out of reach.
But there’s more to it than that. We spend years:
-
Listening to people whose voices are louder than our own.
-
Getting rewarded for being a responsible, productive “good girl” — not for being joyful.
-
Telling ourselves we’ll “get to it later” — when the work is done or the kids are grown.
-
Confusing busyness with meaning, and distraction with happiness.
-
Over time, we lose touch with the small, everyday things that once lit us up — because they don’t seem to “matter” as much as everything else on the list.
Before we know it, joy becomes something we vaguely remember instead of something we actively choose.
But what if it didn’t have to be that way?
What if joy wasn’t something you had to chase or earn?
Or add to an already overloaded list?
What if it could start with one small, brave intention:
To do what brings you joy?
