Just begin: a gentle nudge to stop waiting and start living

“Begin.” What a funny little word.

So small.

Yet so powerful.

It calls for action. For movement forward.

And sometimes it calls for courage.

For taking risks.

And stepping into the unknown.

For starting things before you may feel ready.

“Begin” is a word I’ve been thinking a lot about lately.

Especially since that global pause we all experienced a few years ago.

The one that quietly invited us to slow down, reflect, and re-evaluate what really matters to us.

And what doesn’t.

That time became an unexpected filter.

A moment to notice what we wanted to carry forward…

Of what should stay in our lives.

And what should go.

As I did this inventory on my own life I realized just how important the word “begin” was.

Before the Great Pause of 2020, I was carrying on at my usual pace.

Going through the motions of day-to-day life.

Dragging my feet on some things.

Letting my fear stop me on others.

But since then, I’ve a sense of urgency.

To let go of the things no longer serving me.

(Why waste any more time on those?)

And to call forth the ones that were.

I’ve had a growing feeling that the Universe wanted me to step up.

To step fully into my life.

Once and for all.

No more excuses. No more procrastinating.

To just begin to do more of the things that resonated with my heart.

Instead of putting them off until tomorrow.

Until “someday.”

To begin to move through my fear.

To move through my limiting beliefs.

Of perfectionism.

Overthinking. Over-analyzing.

And comparison to others.

To begin to push aside all the reasons I tell myself why I can’t do the very things I know I want to.

The very things that will lead me to a more fulfilling life.

A more purposeful life.

I’ve realized it doesn’t matter where we begin.

Or even when do, if we do it well.

There’s no perfect way to begin.

All that really matters is that we do in fact just begin.

To take those baby steps towards living in alignment with our core values.

With the very things that light us up.

And make us feel more alive.

Because life is for living now.

Not putting it off til someday.

When all the so-called pieces fall into place.

Because those pieces may never come. And you could spend a lot of precious time waiting.

Waiting for your life to just begin.

When you’re the one that needs to take the reigns.

And “just begin it!”

So let me ask you this…

What have you been putting off until tomorrow?

What do you feel called to do?

Or to say?

Or to have?

And what are you waiting for?

I challenge you to take a step towards it.

That thing. That person.

That career, or job, or new business idea.

That part-time passion.

That whatever!

And just begin.

Today!
